Message to families:
Today, I am pleased to share the Traverse City Area Public Schools Continuity of Education Plan with you. The plan describes our commitment to providing ongoing education for your child, in partnership with you, our families, while our schools remain closed to in-person instruction for the remainder of the 2019/2020 school year. It also outlines the district’s balanced approach to providing virtual and non-virtual learning opportunities and communication that honors each unique student. With the approval of the plan, TCAPS will now begin to offer instruction that will be counted by the state and that teachers will expect students to engage in and complete.
I would like to thank the team of education professionals who worked together to develop the COVID-19 TCAPS Continuity of Education Plan. It was created collaboratively with input from teachers and teacher leaders, district curriculum leaders, principals, and executive team members. It also included input from students, union leaders, and the Board of Education. I am proud of the work of this broad and highly capable group of individuals and am grateful for their district-wide effort. We are also grateful for the thoughtful input, timely review, and approval of our plan by the Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District. A full list of acknowledgments can be viewed on pages 2-3 of the plan document.
With the ISD’s acceptance of our new learning plan, we will begin the transition to remote learning for the remainder of the school year. Your child’s school and teacher(s) will be in contact with you with additional details and information pertaining to individual classes and classrooms. We hope as much as possible to limit any additional disruption to your child’s learning as we transition to our new modes of instruction.
Below are messages by school level containing additional detailed information for families. This includes information regarding how to access necessary learning resources, as well as ongoing opportunities to receive counseling services, meals, and other supports.
